Typically, fires come from a chemical reaction between oxygen in the atmosphere and some sort of fuel such as wood, gasoline or other materials. Fire, one of the four Aristotelian elements, is a useful symbol for poets: it can denote passion, purification, anger, destruction, and, of course, literal blazes and conflagrations.
